What is Imitrex?
• Imitrex is a headache medicine lawsuits with imitrex. It is believed to work by causing vasoconstriction(narrowing) of arteries and veins that supply blood to the head lawsuits with imitrex.
• Imitrex is used to treat vascular headaches such as migraine and clusterheadaches lawsuits with imitrex. Imitrex will not prevent migraines or cluster headaches or reducethe number of attacks lawsuits with imitrex. It will only treat a migraine or cluster headache thatis already occurring lawsuits with imitrex.
• Imitrex may also be used for purposes other than those listed in thismedication guide lawsuits with imitrex.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Imitrex?
• Do not use Imitrex if you
· have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid(Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the last 14days;
· have basilar or hemiplegic migraine headaches;
· have had a heart attack, have angina (chest pain), or have anothertype of heart disease;
· have had a stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs);
· are experiencing a headache that is not like other migraines that youhave had;
· have taken an ergot-based medication within the last 24 hours --ergot-basedmedicines include methysergide (Sansert), ergotamine (Ergostat, Medihaler Ergotamine),dihydroergotamine mesylate (D.H.E., Migranal Nasal Spray), and ergotamine combinationproducts (Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine, Cafatine, Cafatine-PB, Cafetrate); or
· have taken another migraine medicine such as almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan(Frova), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), or zolmitriptan(Zomig, Zomig-ZMT) in the past 24 hours lawsuits with imitrex.
• Using Imitrex may be dangerous if you have any of the conditions, orhave taken any of the medications, listed above lawsuits with imitrex.
• Before using Imitrex, tell your doctor if you
· have risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure, afamily history of heart disease, high cholesterol (a type of fat), are overweight,diabetes, smoke cigarettes, are postmenopausal, are a male over 40 years ofage;
· have circulation problems such as Raynaud syndrome;
· have liver disease;
· have kidney disease; or
· have seizures or epilepsy lawsuits with imitrex.
• You may not be able to use Imitrex, or you may require a dosage adjustmentor special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listedabove lawsuits with imitrex.
• Imitrex is in the FDA pregnancy category C lawsuits with imitrex. This means that it is notknown whether Imitrex will be harmful to an unborn baby lawsuits with imitrex. Do not use this medicationwithout first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnantduring treatment lawsuits with imitrex.
• Imitrex passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant lawsuits with imitrex. Do notuse Imitrex without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding ababy lawsuits with imitrex.
How should I use Imitrex?
• Use Imitrex exactly as directed by your doctor lawsuits with imitrex. If you do not understandthese directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you lawsuits with imitrex.
• Take one tablet, administer an injection, or use the nasal spray as soonas you notice symptoms of a migraine, or at any time during an attack lawsuits with imitrex.
• Take each oral dose with a full glass of water lawsuits with imitrex. If your symptoms go away,but then return, you can take an additional oral dose 2 hours after the first,up to a maximum of 200 mg in 24 hours, unless otherwise directed by your doctor lawsuits with imitrex. Never take more than this amount lawsuits with imitrex.
• Administer Imitrex injectable directly beneath the skin (subcutaneously)as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine or cluster headache lawsuits with imitrex. Ask your doctoror nurse to show you how to use the auto-injector, and read the directions thataccompany the package lawsuits with imitrex. Do not inject this medication if you are unsure how lawsuits with imitrex. Never inject any Imitrex that is discolored or that has particles in it lawsuits with imitrex. Ifyour headache is relieved, but then returns, you can use a second dose 2 hoursafter the first dose lawsuits with imitrex. Do not use more than 2 doses in 24 hours lawsuits with imitrex.
• For Imitrex nasal, gently blow your nose to clear any mucous lawsuits with imitrex. Insertthe tip about 1 cm (one-half inch) into the nostril, pointing it straight upinto the nasal canal lawsuits with imitrex. Block your other nostril and keep your head upright lawsuits with imitrex. Pumpand sniff gently at the same time lawsuits with imitrex. Try not to sneeze or blow your nose justafter using the spray lawsuits with imitrex. If your headache is relieved, but then returns, you canuse a second dose 2 hours after the first dose lawsuits with imitrex. Do not use more than 2 dosesin 24 hours lawsuits with imitrex.

• Store Imitrex at room temperature away from moisture, heat, light, andthe reach of children lawsuits with imitrex. Throw away any unused medicine on the expiration date lawsuits with imitrex.
What happens if I miss a dose?
• Since Imitrex is used to treat migraines or cluster headaches as theyoccur and not to prevent them, missing a dose is not a problem lawsuits with imitrex. Use only thedoses you need, according to your doctor's instructions lawsuits with imitrex.
What happens if I overdose?
• Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected lawsuits with imitrex.
• Symptoms of a Imitrex overdose might include tremor, redness, or a warmfeeling in your arms and legs, irregular breathing, large pupils; an uncoordinatedfeeling; and chest pain lawsuits with imitrex.

What are the possible side effects of Imitrex?
• If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop usingImitrex and seek emergency medical attention:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat;swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
· severe or prolonged chest pain or an irregular heartbeat; or
· sudden and/or severe abdominal pain lawsuits with imitrex.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur lawsuits with imitrex. Continueto use Imitrex and talk to your doctor if you experience
· nausea;
· drowsiness or dizziness;
· tingling, flushing, warmth, redness, or heaviness of a body part;
· unpleasant taste in the mouth (nasal spray);
· nasal irritation (nasal spray); or
· injection site discomfort (injection) lawsuits with imitrex.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur lawsuits with imitrex. Talk to yourdoctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome lawsuits with imitrex.
What other drugs will affect Imitrex?

· another migraine medicine such as almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan(Frova), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), or zolmitriptan(Zomig, Zomig-ZMT) lawsuits with imitrex.
• Using Imitrex within 24 hours of any of the medicines listed above maybe dangerous lawsuits with imitrex.
• Before using Imitrex, tell your doctor if you are taking a selectiveserotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) such as citalopram (Celexa), fluoxetine(Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft) lawsuits with imitrex. Youmay not be able to use Imitrex, or you may require a dosage adjustment or specialmonitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed lawsuits with imitrex.
