What is the most important information I should know about Inderal?

What is Inderal?
• Inderal is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers inderal information. Beta-blockers affectthe heart and circulatory system (arteries and veins) inderal information.
• Inderal is used to reduce hypertension (high blood pressure), to treatangina (chest pain), to treat irregular heartbeats, to treat migraines, to treattremor, and to reduce the risk of a recurrent heart attack inderal information.
• Inderal may also be used for purposes other than those listed in thismedication guide inderal information.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Inderal?
• Do not take Inderal if you are taking thioridazine (Mellaril) inderal information. Takingthese medicines together could result in dangerous, even fatal, irregular heartbeats inderal information.
• Before taking Inderal, tell your doctor if you have
· asthma;
· heart problems such as low blood pressure, a slow heart rate, heartblock, sick sinus syndrome, a pacemaker, heart failure, or others;
· diabetes;
· depression;
· thyroid disease;
· kidney disease;
· liver disease; or
· any type of circulation problems inderal information.
• You may not be able to take Inderal, or you may require a dosage adjustmentor special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listedabove inderal information.
• Inderal is in the FDA pregnancy category C inderal information. This means it is not knownwhether Inderal will be harmful to an unborn baby inderal information. How should I take Inderal?
• Take Inderal exactly as directed by your doctor inderal information. If you do not understandthese directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you inderal information.
• Take each dose with a full glass of water inderal information.
• Inderal can be taken with or without food inderal information. Each dose of InnoPran XL shouldbe taken in the same way, either with or without food inderal information.
• Take Inderal at the same time every day whenever possible inderal information. InnoPran XLshould be taken at bedtime (approximately 10 p.m.) inderal information.
• Do not crush, chew, break, or open the long-acting or extended-releasecapsules (Inderal LA, InnoPran XL) inderal information. Swallow them whole inderal information.

What happens if I overdose?
• Seek emergency medical attention inderal information.
• Symptoms of a Inderal overdose include a slow heartbeat, shortness ofbreath, fainting, dizziness, weakness, confusion, nausea, and vomiting inderal information.
What should I avoid while taking Inderal?
• Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardousactivities inderal information. Inderal may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blood pressure changes inderal information. If you experience drowsiness or dizziness, avoid these activities inderal information.
• Use alcohol cautiously inderal information. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizzinesswhile taking this medication inderal information.
• Tell your doctor and dentist that you are taking this medication beforehaving surgery inderal information.
What are the possible side effects of Inderal?
• If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop takingInderal and call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat;swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives);
· wheezing or shortness of breath;
· an unusually slow or irregular heart beat;
· swelling of the feet or lower legs;
· leg pain or cramping;
· sudden weight gain (more than 2 pounds in one day or 5 pounds in oneweek);
· chest (heart) pain;
· unusually cold or blue feet and hands; or
· skin rash inderal information.
• If you experience any of the following less serious side effects, continuetaking Inderal and talk to your doctor:
· fatigue or confusion;
· headache or dizziness;
· weak pulse or mildly slow heart rate;
· diarrhea, constipation, gas, nausea, or vomiting;
· depression;
· nightmares; or
· impotence (difficulty obtaining or maintaining an erection) inderal information.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur inderal information. Talk to yourdoctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome inderal information.
What other drugs will affect Inderal?

· another heart medicine such as nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat), reserpine(Serpasil), verapamil (Calan, Verelan, Isoptin), diltiazem (Cardizem, DilacorXR), clonidine (Catapres), or digoxin (Lanoxin);
· a diabetes medication such as insulin, glyburide (Diabeta, Micronase,Glynase), glipizide (Glucotrol), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), or metformin (Glucotrol);
· a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen (Motrin,Advil, others), naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), or ketoprofen (Orudis,Orudis KT, Oruvail);
· a respiratory medication such as albuterol (Ventolin, Proventil, Volmax,others), bitolterol (Tornalate), metaproterenol (Alupent, Metaprel), pirbuterol(Maxair), terbutaline (Brethaire, Brethine, Bricanyl), or theophylline (Theo-Dur,Theochron, Theolair, others), and others;
· warfarin (Coumadin);
· haloperidol (Haldol); or
· a prescription or over-the-counter cough medication, cold medicine,or diet pill inderal information.
• You may not be able to take Inderal, or you may require a dosage adjustmentor special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicineslisted above inderal information.
• Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Inderal oraffect your condition inderal information. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking anyprescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products inderal information.
